By The Mali Health Team | Bamako, Mali
Community health is a team effort. And really, so is our whole organization.
As you may know, we have been celebrating our amazing team of 41 community health workers this year. They work hard each day in their communities to help mothers and children access high-quality healthcare.
They are supported by the team at our office in Bamako. A talented group of men and women who lead our organization and are committed to improving community health in their country.
But, there's another team that makes it all possible: YOU.
It takes all of us. Together, we have been able to reach an incredible milestone. For one more year, we have not lost a single mother or child in the care of our community health workers, bringing this impressive achievement to nearly six years in a row. It would not have been possible without you.
But despite their results, community health workers are not a part of the health system in the peri-urban communities we serve.
We’re working hard to change that, but in the meantime, we are supporting this part of our team on our own. Over 85% of the support for this life-saving work - from the salaries of our health workers to the fees for treatment at health centers - comes from you.
So you see, we simply cannot do it without you. It takes all of us to make a difference, and as a team, we are.
We hesitate to imagine what it would be like without our dream team in place. Without our community health workers like Sirimanfa and Kadidiatou, thousands of families across Bamako would go without care.
They bring a dedication to their work and to their communities that not only changes their communities - it also changes them.
As they make their daily visits to families, our team does not wear capes. They wear vests, actually. I imagine you don’t wear a cape either. But in our view, they, and you, are most definitely heroes.
Thank you for your support, thank you for being on our team.
With our very best wishes for a very happy, healthy, peaceful New Year,
The Mali Health Team
