Urgent Action for Palestinian Human Rights

Thank you for your continued support, which enables Rebuilding Alliance to advocate for Palestinian communities facing displacement, restricted access to essential services, and ongoing humanitarian challenges.

Over the past several months, Rebuilding Alliance’s Advocacy team has convened high level meetings with Congressional staff, U.S. State Department, the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem, physicians, humanitarian organizations, and faith leaders to advance meaningful policy to protect civilians and expand humanitarian access for Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. 

Gaza: Restoring Humanitarian Pathways for Patients 

Over 18,500 patients in Gaza need medical treatment unavailable in Gaza, while hospitals in East Jerusalem are equipped, ready, and willing to provide that care. The primary barrier is the diplomatic action needed to reopen the humanitarian corridor. 

During the week of March 2nd 2026, Rebuilding Alliance held 20 meetings with Democratic and Republican congressional offices across both the House and Senate to press for the reopening of the humanitarian corridor connecting Gaza and the East Jerusalem Hospital Network (EJHN) and the West Bank. 

• We were joined by colleagues from Physicians for Human Rights (NY) and Physicians for Human Rights Israel, who highlighted both the urgent medical needs of patients and the legal efforts underway in Israel to restore access to care. 
• We also met with the U.S. State Department’s Response Management Team which works alongside the Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) to coordinate the U.S. Government’s humanitarian response in Gaza, urging the Department to use its diplomatic channels to reopen the humanitarian corridor and restore patient access to life-saving medical care in hospitals in East Jerusalem. 

While highlighting the vast needs of patients in Gaza, our advocacy also brought forward individual cases of patients in urgent need of medical evacuation. Through RA’s Gaza Medical Evacuation Task Force, we coordinated advocacy on behalf of patients requiring urgent care. 

• We worked closely with staff at the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem to advance the case of Baby Alma who urgently needed lung surgery that a hospital within the EJHN was prepared to provide. Ambassador Huckabee engaged with Israeli counterparts to press for her evacuation. 
• Despite advocacy from Rebuilding Alliance and engagement from Congress and the U.S. Embassy, baby Alma was not able to evacuate to Jerusalem in time. She passed away waiting to receive care. 

• Her story has strengthened our resolve. RA is now working with a Senate office on legislation that could help restore this humanitarian medical corridor, so no child dies waiting for medical care that is readily available just miles away.  

In May, on the plenary panel “Heath & Human Crises” at the Joint Christian Advocacy Summit, our Director of Advocacy Nisreen Malley presented RA’s strategy for reopening the humanitarian corridor and expanding access to life-saving medical care in Gaza, and advancing the Darna shelter initiative despite severe restrictions on construction materials. Ahead of the Summit’s national congressional advocacy day, RA briefed advocates on these priorities, equipping them for meetings with their members of Congress. 

West Bank: Remove Violent Settler Outposts and Prevent Displacement

Our team has also continued advocating for Palestinian communities in the West Bank facing unprecedented escalations of settler violence, demolition orders, and the imminent threat of forced displacement.  

The Bedouin village of Khan Al Ahmar remains among the most vulnerable to displacement. 

• Rebuilding Alliance met with representatives from the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem and Congressional offices to urge immediate diplomatic engagement to protect the community's right to remain on their land. 

• With the threat of displacement growing, diplomatic intervention may be the only remaining means to prevent the village’s forcible removal and safeguard its residents.

As threats to Umm al Kheir intensified, Rebuilding Alliance’s Advocacy Team expanded its longstanding advocacy on behalf of the community, where residents face ongoing demolition orders, expanding settler outposts, and increasing restrictions on daily life.

• As settlers blocked children’s access to their school, and two settler outposts were established inside the village, Rebuilding Alliance organized briefings for Congressional offices and the U.S. Embassy to provide regular real-time updates from community leaders on the ground, ensuring policymakers were informed of the developments as conditions evolved. 
• RA urged engagement with Israeli officials to remove the two settler outposts established within the village, and recognize Umm al Kheir’s master plan, submitted in late April, and still awaiting approval. 

Following the establishment of a violent illegal settler outpost just meters from the center of Al Aqaba village and the tragic killing of a young man, our team worked closely with community leaders, and the village’s attorney to provide the U.S. Embassy with timely updates pushing for diplomatic engagement, while supporting the coordination of legal strategizing. 

• The outpost has been dismantled and reestablished 24 times so far. 
• Building on this work, RA met with representatives of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem (LPJ) to strengthen collaboration on protecting vulnerable communities across the Jordan Valley, where villages like Al Aqaba and Al Maleh where RA has engaged for many years continue to face settler violence, demolitions, and the threat of displacement.
