“I was ten years old when mi mom gave me to a 60 years old man in exchange for beer and money. Before I left with the man, my father sexually abused me, the man did it too. I got pregnant and when I was 12 years old I had my baby. My husband and my mother-in-law abused me and my mother told me to put up with it because he was my husband, the man's son also raped me so I stopped eating. They didn't buy me clothes I was always wearing the same clothes”.
This is the story about Ana, a 14-year-old teenager. As Ana, many women suffer gender violence since childhood, a serious violence that affects their bodies, their lives and their emotions.
Currently in Mexico, sexual abuse against girls and adolescents is on the rise. So far this year alone, Consorcio-Oaxaca has registered 24 crimes of sexual abuse and harassment in its database. In Naaxxwin we have assisted 2 girls, 6 teenagers and 6 adult women who were sexually abused, only in this year. That, although it is true that the way we are educated, not being able to express what we feel, the myths and beliefs that exist around our sexuality as women, influence girls, teenagers and women to experience this type of violence and that it is not talked about or reported because the aggressors are usually relatives (cousins, uncles, grandparents, fathers) of the victims.
That is why it is important to provide accompaniment and guidance to women who live in a situation of violence so that they realize that they are not alone, that there are other ways of life. In this reporting period alone we have provided 330 psychological and legal services.
We thank you for your donation, with this it is possible for more women to know and exercise their right to live free of violence.
