In this report we are sharing the story of a young couple from rural India. Rani (age 22 years), mother of a newborn and Akhilesh, driver by profession. The couple was married two years ago and is living with Akhilesh’s father and two brothers in Sachendi. Akhilesh’s father and elder brother instead of supporting the family have given up themselves to alcoholism. Being the only female in the family it was a tough time for Rani since she had never faced such circumstances in her family before marriage. Rani could feel safe only in Akhilesh’s presence at home.
Rani Shares- My first visit to the nearest Merrygold Health Network Hospital was a big surprise as I had never expected that I would ever be able to access such a clean and tidy place for ante natal care. I experienced a compassionate conversation from the doctor and support staff.
Vimlaji (merrytarang member) Shares- I motivated Rani that her pre-conceived notions about arrogant behavior of doctors and long waiting hours at district hospitals will be nullified and she will find a big difference if she avails ANC services and institutional delivery at Merrygold Hospitals. All her negative assumptions that all health care facilities and providers were similar in function were answered.
Rani and Akhilesh were blessed with a healthy baby and are grateful to you all for such an initiative that has brought joy in their life. Akhilesh was able to bear the expenses of the procedure because of global giving sponsorship program.
Indeed, we thank all of you for your generosity in ensuring quality care to poor pregnant mothers and helping them with institutional deliveries. Your kind support is truly empowering families and bringing good health to mothers and their newborns.
