When we first met Mercy, she had been brought to APSO free All Skin Diseases Medical Camp at Githurai in Nairobi last May 2014. Mercy and her single mother, a vegetable vendor earning less than $2 a day lives in Githurai area. She could hardly afford Mercy’s expensive medicine; leave alone take her to a skin specialist. She opted to keep Mercy home and unsuccessfully continued to treat her with Pork fat. Her skin was horrible and unsightly.
However, thanks to each and every donation we receive, Mercy’s skin is now healed and beautiful to look at. Countless other children like her have reported improvement and are grateful that they can now change into School uniform, put on their backpack and live their dreams of going to school without fear of stigmatization.
Wednesday October 29th, 2014 was World Psoriasis Day. Africa Psoriasis Organization combined two fantastic events to provide free treatment to 30 pupils suffering from psoriasis and train 18 Clinical Officers on basic skin diseases diagnosis and treatment.
Mercy was among these pupils, each of who received free treatment and two months medicine purchased with the Funds raised through GlobalGiving in June and September 2014 Open Challenge. Together with Mercy, 12 pupils are now members of Africa Psoriasis Organization Patient Assistance Program (PAP). The program assists needy psoriasis patients with settlement of Dermatologists Consultancy Fee and Free medicines.
The 18 Clinical Officers will be assisting during APSO Free Medical Camps and Psoriasis Education Programs in Schools in 2015. Fundraising to support this causes is ongoing on globalgiving.org.
To support, make a donation now, then share this cause with friends and family and ask them to donate too. If many of us get behind this cause, it will ultimately gain a permanent spot on globalgiving.org and gain access to GlobalGiving pool of donors.
