 News from Nairobi Kenya

You check your flight path  and within no time you are ready to  land in Kenya at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. You exit and everywhere you see  warm-hearted looking Kenyans. Jambo, they say to you.......!

You take a  taxi,  and get to drive through a beautiful natural landscape of vegetation. The heavy traffic gives an opportunity to appreciate the beauty of Mother Africa.Through the city , you wonder if people are conditioned to walk fast  but your taxi driver introduces them as “Kenyans  are always in a rush but never on time!!!” Oops!!!  Did he say that?

Suddenly,a ride which was ‘smoothie’  shifts to ‘bumpy’......oh my God !Your heart beat increases but no one around seems  to be riding in the same boat; you are the only one shocked by the pot holes..ha ha !

Daniel intuitively connects with your fear. He affirms that all is well, the man behind the wheel is the most experienced pot hole navigator.  You breathe  a sigh of relief.

After not too long, but longer than  it would take you on your usual road, you alight at a point where you will see that anything and everything is  sold by the road side, including food, household goods, craft, clothes and equipment.

Straight on, you walk to Abundance School where you are joined by tiny beautiful-looking, friendly pupils.

They are keen to report on the progress at school. First they remind you about the last news you had from their school; the school had gone through difficult times. Heavy rain had just pounded the area leaving roads flooded and unusable. Leaking roofs  disrupted learning, muddy ,wet and slippery grounds made playing a forgotten dream.

However we are happy that things are back to usual though cold temperatures are proving to be a temporary headache.

Despite the disrupted learning,  our teachers have worked extra hard and we are breaking for a short holiday after learning all that had been planned by our teachers. One of our teachers is taking a three year professional training on early childhood education. Two other teachers will this year be following  a one week seminar training on Transformational Breath and anger management.

Early next term, we look forward to visiting Nairobi animal orphanage. We will also have interclass game competitions.

Asante sana (thank you very much) for your continued support. Our dream is to learn in a  well-equipped school that is less disrupted by untimely weather changes and has class rooms for different age groups.

Asante!

Daniel Marungu
