ABC Health Foundation

Medical education has always been at the heart of what ABC Health Foundation does in Albania. This season has brought some of the most fruitful training opportunities we have seen, not only through visiting international colleagues, but through our own Albanian staff taking that work to physicians across the country.

Dr. John Witt visited Albania for a second time, leading a concentrated week of teaching and exchange. His sessions reached a wide range of medical professionals:

• ABC staff receiving continuing education,
• practicing Albanian physicians who joined an open training,
• Family Practice residents and general medical students at the Medical University of Tirana, and MSc students at the European University of Tirana.

Dr. Valbona our Medical Director, reflected on what made these sessions particularly valuable: the format became a conversation. Residents asked questions. Experiences were exchanged from both sides. For younger physicians in Albania, that kind of open, collegial learning environment is rare and it is exactly what your support makes possible.

The ABC team, Dr. Valbona and our headnurse Flutura, traveled to multiple locations outside Tirana as part of the SOLIDAR Project, training groups of Albanian General Doctors in areas that often receive little outside support. This work reflects something we care deeply about: that medical education in Albania should not depend solely on international visitors, but should grow from within from Albanian physicians investing in Albanian physicians. Every training our local team leads is a step toward that sustainable future.

Beyond the clinic walls, a community health outreach in Laç brought together the ABC team, GZB partner organisation and Dr. Witt to serve approximately 50 patients. These moments of direct care, combined with the sustained work of education, reflect our conviction that excellent healthcare taught and practiced with integrity is one of the most lasting ways to serve the people of Albania.
