AAWC Udaan: Best of July-Sept 2014

AAWC has enjoyed a wonderful monsoon!

 

Organisational Updates

  • Festive Celebrations: This monsoon, we celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr, Gopalkala, Independence Day, Raksha Bandhan and Teachers' Day  with devotion and festive fervour.
  • Accolades: Apne Aap Women’s Collective (AAWC)’s Udaan project has been shortlisted among the Top 50 projects out of more than 500 entries from 70 countries worldwide for the Project Inspire: 5 Minutes to Change the World competition, which is a joint initiative from the Singapore Committee for UN Women and MasterCard. Moreover we are now eligible to receive grants from Charities Aid Foundation (CAF).
  • Capacity building: Our staff attended workshops on leveraging the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2015 as a fundraising platform, use of digital media to retain and grow donors, work-life balance for women in the 21st Century, child protection,child rights, social innovation, government schemes for PLHIV and also the NGO India Giving Back 2014 Conference-cum-exhibition organised by UBM and GuideStar India.
  • Monthly medical check-ups: Umeed, Umang, and Udaan members were examined by medical teams from Reliance Foundation and Decimal Foundation and administered drugs, iron biscuits and flavoured soya milk, as per necessity.

 

Udaan  Updates

       Empowerment

  • Career exposure visit: The girls visited the office of Pricewaterhouse Coopers(PwC) , interacted with the staff and also enjoyed fun activities.

  • Career guidance: The girls attended a workshop on occupational profile and also learnt about Architecture as a career and Geography as a degree, conducted by our volunteers, Allegra and Mary.Regular computer classes have been started for girls.

  • Mentoring: In collaboration with Raindancer, Project Lighthouse one-to-one mentoring programme for girls was started.
  • Edutainment workshops: Our girls attended classes on English speaking, drama, ballet , drawing, diyaa-paintingtheatre, clay Ganesha idol making conducted by our dedicated volunteers like Aria, Ishaan, Susan,Cindy, Fatimatou, Aria, Suzanne and the Khula Aasmaan team.

  • Health  workshops: The girls attended workshops on concentration building through yoga,basic self defence techniques conducted by Aria, Mr. Lazarus John Mascarenhas, Mr. Rajendra Nair.

  • Recreational excursions: Girls visited the Symphony Orchestra of India workshop and open rehearsal at NCPA.
