Although this campaign is still in its early stages, our work in communities across Manicaland continues to highlight the urgent need for assistive devices among children with disabilities.
Nzeve has continued its disability awareness and community outreach activities across Manicaland Province. While engaging with families, schools, and community leaders, the team has been identifying children with disabilities who require assistive devices and documenting their specific needs to ensure support can be provided as resources become available. As part of this effort, Nzeve also conducted Parenting Pathways sessions, where caregivers learned practical techniques to support their children's communication, motor skills, and development. These sessions reinforce that for many children, assistive devices are most effective when caregivers have the knowledge and skills to support their use at home.
Our outreach activities have highlighted a growing need for mobility aids such as wheelchairs, crutches, and walking sticks, hearing support devices, sensory and developmental resources for children with developmental delays, and sunscreen for children with albinism. Many families expressed that the high cost of these items places them beyond their reach, limiting children's independence, access to education, and participation in community life.
This initial phase has been important in establishing a clear understanding of the needs within the communities we serve and will help ensure that assistive devices are provided to children with the greatest needs as soon as resources are mobilized.
Nzeve looks forward to sharing the impact that your support will make as the project progresses.
