3D Paper Modelling Workshop
On 28th February 2014, a creative 3D paper modelling workshop was conducted by Mr. Sanjay Singh, an extremely talented product designer from Patna. Students learnt how to transform a two dimensional piece of paper into a three dimensional object and learnt more about symmetry and how shapes fit together. The workshop had enormous learning benefits for the children and focused on the intricacies of 3D sketches and the importance of 'perspective' in art.
Dinner Date with Sachin Tendulkar
In February 2014, a quiz – ‘Bowl to Meet Sachin’ was conducted by Young India Fellows for the students of SSK. 170 students participated in the initial rounds of written tests that included a series of objective questions and essay-writing. The students who performed well were selected for the final audio visual Quiz round. On 18th February 2014, seven teams, two students each, went through three rigorous rounds of quizzing. Ram Murari (Class III) & Mithilesh (Class VIII) won the quiz and now will be going to Mumbai to have a dinner with the cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar.
Mentorship Programme
In February, Young India Fellows started a Mentorship Programme for the students of VIII, IX, X and XII. It is a unique program in which different people from various walks of life are assigned as mentors to each student based on his aspirations and interests. The objective is to mentor these kids in a positive way which could make a profound difference in their lives. The mentors actively share their knowledge and experiences over a telephonic conversation once a week. The children share their thoughts, career related dilemmas, successes, failures with their mentors who guide them in all areas of their lives.
Outstanding Performance at BIT Reva, January 2014
Reva, the annual cultural-sports-art festival, organised by the students of NSS, BIT Patna aims to provide a platform for the children of marginalized section of society. Students of SSK participated in various cultural and sports events in senior and junior category and bagged more than half the prizes in dramatics, essay writing, three legged race, 100 m race, sack race, drawing etc. The students bagged all the top three positions in Essay writing and Drawing.
Visit to Mumbai, January 2014
In January 2014, a group of six students went to a 4-day Mumbai trip sponsored by Mr. Amit Chandra, MD, Bain Capital, Private Equity. The five top-most academically proficient kids of Class IV, V and VI went through a quiz round. The top two performers from each class were selected. The students went by air and stayed at the YMCA youth hostel. During their visit, the students went to many places of tourist-interest and were thrilled to see a beach for the first time in their lives. On the last day, they visited Kidzania, an edutainment centre for children, and had fun while having real life experiences through role-play. They also had a nice interactive session with the EdelGive Team.
New Year Celebrations, January 2014
The Cultural Ministry of the school's parliament organised a Talent Show on the eve of 31st December. The audience loved to watch the zealous dancing and singing performances. The students welcomed 2014 with a ten minute guided meditation and shared their resolutions for the year.
Mr. Nene’s Visit, December 2013
On December 26th, Mr. Nene, the Director (Marketing) of IOCL had visited SSK to announce IOCL’s commitment to support in building a world class auditorium with state of the art facilities at SSK’s new campus as part their CSR initiative. The students also presented a short cultural programme to honour his presence.
Merry X-Mas, December 2013
On 24th December, SSK students celebrated Christmas with fun and frolic. The secret Santas gave out open messages to their Santees. They expressed their love and also reminded them not to make mistakes which they had made. This fostered a nice environment in the school and also encouraged students to take care and love one another while being their colleagues’ santas.
CBSE Affiliation Granted, December 2013
A big milestone has been achieved for SSK in December 2013 with the CBSE affiliation being granted to the school. The affiliation number allotted to the school (school number 50442) is 330515. We are grateful to the CBSE team and hope to achieve many more heights.
Rotary South Asia Literacy Summit, December 2013
Mr, Jyotinivas Kumar Sinha, founder Shoshit Samdhan Kendra, was honoured for his valuable contribution in the field of education and literacy as a Literacy Hero in the Rotary South Asia Literacy Summit, 14-15 December 2013, New Delhi.
Splash 2013,
On 16 November 2013, nine students of Class II and III from SSK had participated in an Inter-School Painting Competition, Splash 2013 organised by the AXIS Bank. The competition was held under the themes: ‘Go Green’ and ‘Save Earth’. The SSK Boys bagged the First & Second Position in this event and made their school proud.
Weekend Excursion Programme, November 2013
In November 2013, SSK started a Weekend Excursion Programme for the students under which students are taken to places of educational, historical and cultural importance every weekend. Over the last four months, students have visited places like Science Centre, Botanical garden, Patna Sahib Gurudwara, Patna Museum and many more.
