By Sharon Hitzman | President, The Redshirts
The Brookings-Harbor Redshirts are regretfully announcing the closing of the Brookings-Harbor Redshirts at the end of this year. We have been sending packages to the troops in harm's way for 7-1/2 years. This has transpired for several reasons.
It is a very demanding club because we have to do many steps before we can send a package. We do this every month and large shipments in July, for Christmas in July, and also regular Christmas.
It takes constent fundraisers.
It is contributed to the average age of our members, which is 68 plus. We have lost several members because of sickness and passing away.
It is very hard to get the younger people involved.
The few of us that are left are tired and worn out.
We feel we have done an excellent job in the past 7-1/2 years providing the troops with love and moral support from the people of their country. The response that we have gotten from them is unbelieveable. We have many binders full of letters and pictures and returned flags they have flown over missions and returned to us.
The Redshirts would like to thank each and everyone of you that has contributed to our organization. Please try and find another way to support our troops. In our eyes it is very important that they know that our country stands behind them.
We will miss doing this heartfelt job but we say good-bye with a good feeling for what we have accomplished and hope that others will take over where we are leaving off.
