Earlier this month we came together with the Mkamenyi Primary community to officially launch the start of our project to rebuild their school.
As is tradition, there was singing, poetry and dancing (including, badly, from our director!) and it was a great opportunity to speak to the parents and share with them the exciting plans for their school.

"This was the most important day in the school's history as parents, teachers and pupils came together to celebrate what they believe is the beginning of a new school and a better future for them."

Although building work proper is not scheduled to start until the end of September, over the next few weeks we will be busy making the first batch of bricks on-site, bringing in tonnes of aggregates, and installing water storage tanks, whilst the parents have a large amount of excavation work to do (by hand) in order to create the various levels upon which the new school will be built.
We are, of course, very eager to get started on fulfilling another promise but this is the first time we have undertaken a project of this scale whilst working around an existing school so we are very much taking things one step at a time and whilst we have enough funds to get started we still need to raise in excess of £150,000 to complete this ambitious project as planned over the next 2 years! There is a long road ahead...
