Burundi faces a harrowing reality: maternal mortality rates remain alarmingly high. Countless women in our nation succumb to complications during pregnancy and childbirth, leaving behind devastated families and communities. This crisis is particularly acute in underserved areas, where women often lack access to essential healthcare, including prenatal care and skilled birth attendance. Poverty exacerbates this issue, creating a vicious cycle of deprivation and loss.
The Village Microclinic is committed to breaking this cycle and saving lives. Our flagship project, “building a maternity unit - The Rukundo Medical Polyclinic, is a testament to this commitment. By providing accessible, high-quality maternal healthcare, we aim to significantly reduce maternal and infant mortality rates in Bujumbura's peri-urban communities. We are thrilled to report that the construction of the Rukundo Medical Polyclinic is 100% complete! This state-of-the-art facility is equipped with essential medical equipment, ready to serve the women and children of our community. Our focus is now on building a skilled healthcare team through rigorous recruitment and training.
We extend our deepest gratitude to our generous supporters, including individual donors and organizations like Partners For Equity in Australia. Your contributions have been instrumental in equipping the Rukundo Medical Polyclinic with essential medical equipment. Your support has brought us one step closer to our goal of providing life-saving care to women in need.
With gratitude,

In Burundi, countless women tragically lose their lives each year due to complications during pregnancy. Our healthcare system struggles to reach these women in a timely manner. Women residing in underserved communities are either unable to access healthcare entirely, or receive it far too late. This delay in receiving prenatal care or treatment for illnesses like malaria and pneumonia creates a significant barrier, leaving behind thousands of patients and contributing to preventable deaths linked to poverty.
The Village Microclinic, determined to tackle this challenge of delayed healthcare delivery, embarked on an ambitious project: building a maternity unit. This unit aims to save 2,300 lives in Burundi by significantly increasing the number of women who have access to skilled healthcare providers during childbirth. By eliminating obstacles that postpone critical care for pregnant women and newborns in Bujumbura's peri-urban areas, this maternity unit will demonstrably save lives. Construction of the unit is 100% complete, and we eagerly anticipate opening it to the public soon. Alongside construction efforts, we've been diligently working to secure the vital equipment needed to deliver exceptional care.
The Village Microclinic is thrilled and immensely appreciative of your ongoing support as individual and organizations like the DAK Foundation of Australia, who, through the Gould Family Foundation, generously donated a sterilizer and two vital signs monitors. These crucial additions will significantly enhance the unit's ability to provide comprehensive medical services.
With gratitude,

Thousands of women die every year in Burundi due to pregnancy complications because our health care system does not reach them fast enough when they need them. For those who live in under-served communities, they receive health care too late, or not at all. Pregnant women must wait longer to receive prenatal care or treatment for diseases like malaria or pneumonia. These barriers leave behind thousands of patients every year in Burundi and lead to needless deaths rooted in poverty.
In order to respond to this challenge of health services delivery on time, The Village Microclinic took a challenge to build a maternity unit to save 2 300 lives in Burundi by increasing the number of women who deliver with assistance from a qualified health practitioner. This maternity unit will remove barriers that delay care for pregnant women and new-born in peri-urban areas of Bujumbura and therefore save lives. Building activities of the maternity unit are completed at 100% and hope to open it to the public very soon.
The Village Microclinic is happy and grateful for your continued and generous support. Thank you for the connections you made possible for us. As a result, we have been connected to DAK Foundation Australia and they donated a portable ultrasound machine to our maternity unit. This will help us increase our efficiency and quality of services delivered.
With gratitude,
