Dear Donors,
As some of you may recall, in October 2015, A Life A Time Foundation established the Boston Trauma Fund to provide financial support to children who have the opportunity to come to America to receive free medical treatment at Shriners Hospital for Children. The children accepted under this program come from families in China with minimal financial resources and have suffered severe trauma. Even though all medical treatments is free, these families still are not able to afford the related travel and living expenses. All proceeds from the Boston Trauma Fund are provided to these children and their accompanying family members to cover their travel expenses to the United States and their living expenses during their stays.
We are very excited to share with you that thanks to the efforts of volunteers, four children have been accepted by Shriners Hospital for Children this year. Below is an overview of these children and the trauma they have suffered. We look forward to meeting them when they come to America and will do our best with volunteers to help make this journey easy and comfortable for them as they undergo their treatment.
Shan, born October 2011 in Yunnan, China
In March 2014, two-year-old Shan was out on the farm while his parents were working. When his parents set a fire to burn all the weeds, the wind unexpectedly picked up and the fire surrounded Shan. It took only seconds for his father to pull him out of the fire but the boy was severely burned. Approximately 36% of Shan’s body was covered with second and third degree burns, which primarily covered his head, face, upper body and both hands and legs. All ten fingers suffered necrosis.
LuRan, born February 2006 in Shandong, China
In August 2014, LuRan was doing her homework at her aunt’s home. She smelled gas, so she got up to turn off the gas in the kitchen. When she opened the door to the kitchen, the gas tank exploded. Eight-year-old LuRan was severely injured. Over 90% of her body was covered by second or third degree burns, with only her feet left untouched by the fire.
JunYu, born March 2012 in Guangdong, China
During the 2013 Chinese New Year, JunYu’s family was preparing for the holiday celebration. One-year-old JunYu fell into a pot with boiling water while playing. Approximately 50% of the boy’s body suffered from second degree burns.
Kuan, born September 2005 in Gansu, China
In February 2009, Kuan was playing with his friends when a haystack caught on fire. Because he was too young at the time, he was not able to escape and was injured by fire. Around 20% of his body was covered by second degree burns.
Sincerely,
A Life A Time Foundation
