Dear Donors,
In January 2010, A Life A Time Foundation established a Congenital Heart Disease Fund (“CHD Fund”) to better service children in financial need with this disease. Between 2010 and 2015, A Life A Time contributed RMB 2.75 million (US$407,400) to nearly 300 children to help with their heart disease related surgeries and medical expenses. Unfortunately, some of those children could not be saved, but your donations helped bring hope to those children and their families.
Looking back at the past five years, we want to express our sincere appreciation to all of you. Without your donations, we would not have been able to help so many children.
We also wanted to specially thank Dr. Man Lidu, who recently retired. Prior to his retirement, he worked at Zhengzhou No. 7 People’s Hospital in China and was responsible for admission of children with financial needs as patients and communications with nonprofit organizations. We worked with Dr. Man in a close relationship. His hospital accepts children from all areas and regions in China. Dr. Man always personally went to the train station to pick up and drop off the patients and their accompanying family members, no matter the time of a day. Dr. Man also helped with family members’ living arrangements and spent a great amount of time following each child’s treatment progress. Dr. Man also stayed in close communication with us and other nonprofit organizations to timely update each child’s progress and share receipts and other necessary documents for our record purposes.
We also wanted to thank you all the volunteers we have worked with under the CHD Fund. To save every life possible, these volunteers have fundraised for children in need, contacted hospitals and doctors, and helped with family members’ living arrangements. They often faced pressure and misunderstanding from people around them who did not understand what they were doing, questions and doubts from the families of the patients, and at times the pain they experienced when a child did not make it. Without those volunteers, lives of many children would not have been saved.
On the bright side, children with congenital heart disease have received more awareness from the Chinese government and more nonprofit organizations in recent years. We have noticed a reduction in the number of applications to A Life A Time for help with children suffering from congenital heart disease. As a result, A Life A Time has decided to terminate the CHD Fund. All the congenital heart disease related applications will be submitted and reviewed under our general Emergency Fund.
A Life A Time will continue to work with our cooperative hospitals and volunteers to save the lives of children who are in need. We want to thank all of our donors again. Without your support, there would not have been a CHD Fund and we would not be able to provide the financial support we have given under the CHD Fund over the past five years. We look forward to working with many of you to achieve similar success for children in need under our other existing programs.
Sincerely,
A Life A Time Foundation
