Dear Donors,
We hope you are enjoying the summer. During the first half of 2019, A Life A Time received total donations of approximatley $35,814.00 (including donations made through the GlobalGiving Platform). Together with donations from prior years, we have spent approximately $67,436.00 in 2019 to help 29 children in China. Please note that, because we are still finalizing our numbers, both the income and expense numbers provided are our current estimates.
As you may know, we have three funds: the Emergency Fund, the Chocolate Box Fund and the Boston Trauma Fund. Of the 29 children we helped in the first half of 2019, seven were financed through the Emergency Fund, 11 by the Chocolate Box Fund, and ten from the Boston Trauma Fund, with one child receiving donations designated by donors.
Among the children we have helped during 2019, A Life A Time provided financial support twice to a 4-year-old boy, HongBo, for the two surgeries he underwent in June and July.
HongBo was diagnosed with congenital heart disease 40 days after he was born. In addition to his congenital heart disease, HongBo was also diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension (“PH”), a type of high blood pressure that affects arteries in the lungs and the heart. Although HongBo’s heart disease was treatable, the complications from PH meant that local hospitals lacked the necessary experience to be able to treat HongBo. HongBo’s condition got worse while he was unable to obtain the right medical care, ultimately suffering from cardiac insufficiency and being transferred to Shanghai Children’s Medical Center in 2019.
On June 19, HongBo underwent his first surgery. This procedure went well and HongBo’s doctors planned a second surgery for July 1, with the goal of curing his condition. Given HongBo’s critical condition, his doctors performed the second surgery as planned despite not all of his medical fees being fully paid.
HongBo is currently in the middle of a critical recovery stage, with the key concern being avoiding infections. We have set up a page on our website to update his progress. http://www.alifeatime.org/cn/children/story.aspx?id=1030
His family still needs your support to pay for the two surgeries and all of the medical expenses being incurred during HongBo’s recovery at the hospital. We appreciate any help that you can provide to HongBo and the many other children whose care we are helping to finance with the support of all our donors.
Sincerely,
A Life A Time Foundation
