Meet Sadaf. In 2013, while napping on a haystack in a field near her home, Sadaf was severely injured. Without realizing that she was there the bundle of hay was thrown into a threshing machine causing extensive damage to both her legs. Fortunately, she survived the accident but due to her father's income level ($420 per year), stigma and shame towards disability in the developing world, and her mother who is mentally challenged, Sadaf became confined to the house unable to seek further treatment.
A year later, her father was informed about a program at a hospital in Lahore that provides free assistive devices and rehabilitation to children under the age of 19. Thanks to ALTSO’s partnership with the Pakistan Society for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled (PSRD), Sadaf is now able to walk independently, play with her friends and go to school.
