Give 40 Children in Asia the Ability to Walk!

Thanks to your recent support through GlobalGiving, we have been able to provide clubfoot correctional treatment for two children and treatment for the correction of developmental dysplasia of the hips (DDH) for two children.

Since the start (Sept. 20, 2012) of our "Give 40 Children in Asia the Ability to Walk" GlobalGiving challenge, we have provided 17 children in Asia free orthopedic care and the opportunity for a better future.

Please note, the following four patients included in this report acquired disabilities congenitally. Nawab, Marwa and Maryum are from Kabul, Afghanistand and Nazmul is from Chuadanga, Bangladesh. All patients are between the ages of 4 months and 2 years old.

Of the estimated 200,000 babies born with clubfoot (a congenital foot deformity characterized by feet turned inward and sometimes backward, which is caused by abnormal development of the muscles, tendons and bones in the foot while the fetus is forming during pregnancy) a year, more than 80% live in the developing world, and most of these babies are left untreated or receive inadequate care. In Bangladesh alone, 1 in every 1,000 children are born with this congenital deformity. (Incidence estimated using CIA factbook statistics and clubfoot incidence of 1-2/1000 live births)

Thanks to your recent support through GlobalGiving, we have been able to provide clubfoot correctional treatment for three children, a prosthetic device for one child and corrective surgery for one child suffering from cerebral palsy.

Since the start (Sept. 20, 2012) of our "Give 40 Children in Asia the Ability to Walk" GlobalGiving challenge, we have provided 13 children in Asia free orthopedic care and the opportunity for a better future.
