In rural India rates of diabetes are high, however very few people are aware they have these conditions. For many, unless the problem can be physically seen individuals will not seek medical attention. Historically, diabetes has been a disease of the urban elite as the more families could afford the less functional their movements became and physical work reflected a class hierarchy. However, more recent studies have confirmed a rising prevalence of diabetes among rural communities due to dietary shifts and lifestyle changes. Here at Mann Deshi we recognise this and provide regular free pop-up health camps in the rural villages of Mann Taluka. At these health camps
we carry out health screenings, testing blood sugar and blood pressure, and provide free diabetes medication. Not only providing rural communities with access to affordable healthcare but promoting good health as a priority.
