Rajasthan, India. Thousands of girls inherit HIV at birth. From the poorest caste, at the age of 6 or 7 they see their parents die from the virus. They do not appear in any registry and the rest of their families disowns them... they are invisible. Alone, with nothing, hungry and afraid, they wander the city until the virus destroys their immune system and they fall ill in the ditch of some road. Help us giving them a Home, Medical care, Feeding, and Schooling... Help us giving them a LIFE...
These girls infected/affected by HIV chave low chances of survival and scarcity of opportunities for the future if they are not educated. They are girls excluded from the community, without any source of life, health, education or dignity. Many die in the short term, and others, due to ignorance of the disease and fear of stigma, do so in the medium term. And those "affected", even though they are HIV negative, are marginalized and excluded alike for the simple fact of having positive relatives.
With the proper home, HIV treatment, feeding, medical assitance, clothes and schooling, these girls can have normal lifes. They will have a family and a home. They will be registered. They will take the HIV antiretroviral treatment. They will go to school and have friends. Some will even have superior studies. Most of them will have a job, will marry and will be able to have children. They will have a life... We work to increase the number of girls sheltered, protected and schooled.
These girls will integrate into society and serve as an example, a reference: being a woman HIV inffected doesnt prevent them from having a normal life and good health. They will be, with the time, those who put an end to this fear of HIV and the stigma that grips society, that lies behind the marginalization, the lack of protection, and ultimately, their abandonment and death. And also they will fight the gender inequality.
