If a child can't access language, bring it to them

We are making it happen!
We are making it happen!

Right now at Canales, one of the things we are most excited about is a new bilingual audiovisual project in Argentine Sign Language and Spanish, made specifically for deaf toddlers and young children.

Thanks to your support, the last few months have been all about building stories, characters, educational content, and visual resources so that deaf children, their families, and teachers can learn, play, and share language together.

This work responds to a reality that many people never see: most deaf children are born into families who do not know sign language, which means they often miss out on the everyday conversations, stories, and interactions that help children learn and thrive.

At the heart of this project is a deaf young character who takes children through stories, games, emotions, books, and everyday discoveries. Through this character, children get more than just language-rich content — they see someone like them, someone who shares their language and their way of being in the world.

That representation is huge. Most deaf children grow up without ever seeing deaf adults in the educational content made for them. By putting sign language and deaf experiences at the center, we are helping children build identity, confidence, and a sense of belonging.

Over the past months, our team has been working side by side with deaf professionals, educators, families, filmmakers, illustrators, and children's literature specialists. Together we have moved forward on 56 scripts (yes, fifty six!), educational design, character creation, visual planning, and preparing resources for families and teachers.

Our goal goes beyond entertainment. We want deaf children to learn the names of the people they love, talk about their families, ask questions, discover animals and colors, express their feelings, and make sense of the world around them. These are simple childhood things, but for many deaf children, access to this kind of language-rich content in sign language is still rare. Every episode helps build the vocabulary, confidence, and communication skills they need to connect with others and keep learning.

Every script we write, every activity we design, every scene we prepare brings us closer to a future where deaf children can access stories, language, and learning from the very beginning — in a language they can fully understand.

THANK YOU FOR HELPING US BUILD THAT FUTURE. Your support is making it possible for more deaf children to grow up surrounded by language, imagination, and real opportunities to learn.
