Kenya Connect is building a community of readers from its 62 partner schools in rural Kenya. Our new Library Learning Center will be opening this month. This will be the first public library in the sub-county. The Library Learning Center has 53 steps and we are looking to have the Surrey Christian School raise money to choose a book for a step and help support our library programs! Your donation will provide resources for after-school and Saturday library programs!
Schools in Wamunyu are severely under-resourced. Kenya Connect has introduced a mobile library with School Library Days and a variety of literacy programs. The new Library Learning Center brings the first-ever library to our rural village. Bright and welcoming, the library has space to house our collection of 30,000 books, places for student and community members to read and study, and programming space.
Donating to Steps to Reading helps provide the resources needed to hold programming in the new library. Every $1000 raised means we can decorate a step with a favorite book. Steps are being transformed into books in an effort to nurture curiosity, creativity and a love of reading. Principals have shared that students who are part of our library program are scoring at higher levels and are more engaged in learning.
The LRC Annex and Library will educate 18,000 students, 500 teachers and community members through providing innovative programs, workshops, and resources at the LRC Annex and Library. This project will lift the community out of extreme poverty through the power of education. This dynamic space will spark creativity, micro-enterprises and improved modes of learning.
