Heart Center to Receive Cases of Blankets

By Leila Hawken | Executive Assistant

Huggie Blanket Providing Warmth and Comfort
Huggie Blanket Providing Warmth and Comfort

Surgeons of Hope has learned that the 3M corporation has joined in the final realization of our GlobalGiving microproject by generously donating additional cases of their Bair Huggies blankets, a far larger supply than our total funds would have been able to buy from them. When we described the need for the blankets and how GlobalGiving donors had responded to our microproject, 3M--manufacturer of the warming blankets--saw that need and happily joined in the spirit of making things happen.

Their generosity partnered with so many individual GlobalGiving donations made to keep infants warm after surgery, will mean that eight large cases of brand new blankets will be shipped to Managua, Nicaragua, to supply our new Pediatric Heart Center.

The new blankets will be used in the ICU unit at the new Heart Center, where infants who are defenseless against the cool temperatures needed during surgery, are able to be warmed up quickly following surgery. On their own, babies are not able to regulate their temperature, as they are not able to shiver. These blankets do the trick for them.

Please join us in celebrating this achievement on behalf of the infants and children in Nicaragua who will benefit.

And, accept our heartfelt thanks.
