Train Team in Organic Gardening for Chumanzana

Six active participants of the Chumanzana women’s group participated in a Mushroom Packaging Workshop in May.   The group were thankful for the opportunity to learn about packaging the mushrooms, as it would help them improve their sales.  Comments from the members of the group reported by Candelaria Sut Canu, the project manager, are below.

Josefa is a single young woman in her 20s.  She is one of the young women who has been attending a series of workshops with Candelaria and taking a leadership role in the group.  She shared the following:  We came to the cooperative to improve our knowledge about growing mushrooms. We also learned how to package them for sale.  The mushroom packaging workshop gives us another opportunity to improve our sales. We learned how to package the mushrooms and how to sell them by measure.  The cooperative is dedicated to growing only mushrooms, so the teacher was able to clear up many questions that we had.

Maria Isabel is married and has two children.  She said the following: I was very happy to attend this workshop.  Each person teaches differently.  This teacher explained how to water the mushrooms and many things that are new for me.  It helped us to continue our project of growing mushrooms.  This will help us improve our lives and the lives of our families.

Lucia is 20 years old and single.  I am happy to participate in all the activities that Kateri sponsors.  It benefits us because it is knowledge that no one can take away from us.  It stays with us and helps us to continue our struggle in life and to put into practice all we have learned in the workshop.  We can also share it with all the women in the group who could not attend the workshop.

Carmen is 15 years old.  She said the following:  I am happy to learn new things about the mushrooms.  Each teacher teaches us differently and this teacher answered many of the questions we had.  Now it is up to each of us to put what we learned into practice and to teach the rest of the group.  All the activities we do with Kateri gives us new information and knowledge.  Thank you!

Maria is a single young woman 17years old. Her thoughts follow: Thank you to Kateri for the marvelous things that they teach us for our lives and our family.  I was very happy to participate in the workshop.  It will help me improve my life to learn how to start a business selling mushrooms.  With the profit, I will be able to buy things for the kitchen.

Candelaria is 13 years old. She shared: I feel very happy to participate in the workshop because I learned more about growing mushrooms.  All that they taught us about the form for packaging mushrooms was very interesting.  We also learned more about the growing of the mushrooms.  This will help us to continue with the project and know how to take care of the mushrooms during the process of growing.  Thank you for the aid you are giving us.
