Summary

The Book of Lake Tota, created within the Muyso Wetlands School (MWet), will transform a unique decade-long archive of images into a powerful tool for education and inspiration. By sharing the spirit of Colombia's largest lake, it will help people understand how important and fragile wetlands are for sustaining life, introduce the basic protection principles known as wetland rights, inspire youth involved in MWet's learning programs, and motivate the community to protect Lake Tota's territory.

Challenge

Lake Tota faces pollution, habitat loss, and limited public understanding of wetland rights. Although Fundacion Montecito is fully committed to enhance governance in this region and has gathered a unique decade-long photographic record of this ecosystem, the community lacks accessible tools to turn this knowledge into awareness and action. This project, part of the Muyso Wetlands School (MWet), will bridge that gap and support those most affected: local youth and lake-dependent families.

Solution

This microproject will turn more than ten years of outstanding photographs into a powerful educational book created within the Muyso Wetlands School. It will be freely delivered to rural schools, libraries, and local authorities around Lake Tota, with presentations that guide readers through the book and its companion website. Created to amaze, teach, and move readers to act, this approach makes wetland rights accessible and inspires concrete, positive action across the community.

Long-Term Impact

Over time, this book will become a lasting cultural and educational resource for the Lake Tota region. By placing free copies in rural schools, libraries, and public offices (supported by presentations and a companion website) it will strengthen community awareness, inspire youth through MWet, and promote long-term protection of wetlands and local traditions.
