This Christmas please help us raise money to support 334 visually impaired students attending St Lucy's Primary and Secondary Schools in Meru, Kenya. The schools are in need of essential IT equipment to enable the students to gain the necessary academic qualifications and skills to complete their education and to succeed as independent adults.
The schools implement the Kenyan national school curriculum; however, the schools lack access to sufficient IT equipment to facilitate an effective learning environment. Without appropriate IT equipment, these students are unable to complete the necessary curriculum and lessons, which is negatively impacting their learning, academic attainment and future opportunities. HATW would like to support these vulnerable children overcome these challenges.
Providing 30 refurbished laptops will empower learners with visual impairments. Access to laptops will provide students with the ability to use the appropriate software and screen readers, engage with educational content and develop critical typing and ICT skills, essential for their academic success. This support would allow visually impaired students to access information on an equal footing with sighted counterparts, enhancing their independence and fostering a greater sense of autonomy.
The provision of laptops will ensure the students with visual impairments achieve not only academic success but also social and economic inclusion. This will provide them with access to quality education, higher academic attainment, confidence, independence and a greater sense of autonomy. By providing much needed laptops to these schools, the quality of education will be enhanced and consequently will provide these students with future opportunities as well as fostering inclusive learning.
