This microproject will help secondary students in Loreto become young leaders in protecting water and the Amazon River by collecting used cooking oil before it contaminates rivers, drains, and soil. Students will learn circular economy skills by transforming this waste into eco-friendly soap, engaging their families, reducing pollution, and developing school-based entrepreneurship.
In Loreto, used cooking oil is often poured into drains, soil, or water sources, where it can pollute rivers and harm the Amazon ecosystem. Many students and families are not aware that this daily waste can contaminate large amounts of water. At the same time, schools need practical environmental education activities that help students take real action, not only learn theory.
This microproject will train secondary students to collect used cooking oil from their homes and school community before it reaches drains, soil, or rivers. Students will learn circular economy by transforming the collected oil into eco-friendly soap for a school entrepreneurship activity. Through workshops, collection campaigns, family participation, and student leadership, the project will reduce water pollution, protect the Amazon River, and build practical environmental skills in Loreto.
This project has already transfomed the lives of 375 students and aims to reach 1250 students more and the Maynas community in the Amazon by teaching sustainable practices like recycling and adaptation. It will empower young leaders through environmental education and address issues like pollution and flooding to build community resilience. International experience will promote cultural exchange. Ultimately, the project will cultivate young leaders who drive sustainable development.
