Meet Edward! Edward is 15 years old, and goes to Kutamba Primary School. He loves studying English and playing football with his friends. For $325, YOU can make sure he has everything he needs for another successful academic school year, and help him get closer to his dream of becoming a doctor!
Uganda has the highest number of HIV/AIDS orphans in the world, and many of them live in impoverished circumstances. Most schools have fees that students have to pay. If families cannot afford them, they will keep their children at home to save money. Without an education, poverty will continue to ensnare these children. Although your students, including Edward, are all AIDS orphans living in similar circumstances, they have been given the opportunity to receive free, high-quality education.
When you support Edward, you are ensuring that he will have access to free high-quality education, as well as nutritious school meals and clean water. Many studies show a connection between HIV/AIDS prevention and education, so it is imperative that your students receive as much schooling as possible. Edward, like your other students, understands that education is the key to a better life for him, his family, and his community. Edward works hard every day in school to achieve his goals!
By 2014, you will have built a secondary school designed especially Nyaka and Kutamba graduates. In 2015, the very first class of students from Nyaka will be attending university, and they will graduate in 2018. Starting in 2017, you will be supporting over 900 students, from young nursery students to passionate university students, on an annual basis. Each year, as students graduate from university, they will be replaced by 60 new nursery students, and the cycle of empowerment will continue!
