By Barbara Rosasco | Preview of the Summer Arts Camp 2014
As we approach the summer break, we would like to show some of the activities that our summer campers will share with our Champey Students.
The recent addition of music classes, giving children an opportunity to learn to plan traditional Cambodian musical instruments is very popular. Campers will be introduced to the history of Cambodian music and have the opportunity to observe classes and themselves share instruments that are part of the traditional Cambodian ensemble called the “ pinpeat”.
There are 5 kinds of musical instruments being used in the class:
On Fridays, we also have the loan of Cambodian stringed instruments to introduce to the students. For many of our Campers, this will be a unique opportunity for first hand exposure to these instruments and learning about the Cambodian music.
This introduction and access to traditional Cambodian music is just one of several things that we are doing to educate and encourage Cambodian children to learn about their rich cultural traditions.
None of this is possible without the generous support of our donors. Thank you for your support !
