Raising A Reader currently serves more than 10,000 children and families ages 3-6 years in the state of Maryland with its core book bag rotation program. Thanks to your generosity, we will be delivering the Raising A Reader with STEM program to even more children in low-income schools across Maryland.
Select pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms will receive the STEM program for the 2017-18 school year. Raising A Reader with STEM includes 20 books featuring science, technology, engineering, and math themes. Each book contains a bookplate on the inside cover with an explanation of the STEM topic featured in the book and question prompts and book sharing tips for parents and caregivers to share with their reader to better understand STEM concepts.
By introducing STEM concepts – science, technology, engineering and math – at this early stage in a child’s development we can positively influence their interest in fields not frequently pursued in their communities. We will also introduce families – parents, caregivers and even siblings, cousins and extended family – to the importance of sharing in their child’s learning through reading together.
Raising A Reader has reached more than 1.5 million children in 34 states. With your support, we can reach our goal of impacting twice as many children in all fifty states by 2020!
