Thanks to your generosity, we will be delivering the Raising A Reader with STEM program to pre-K and Kindergarten children in local low-income schools.
We are in the process of selecting the schools that will receive the STEM program for the 2017-18 school year. Raising A Reader with STEM includes 20 books featuring science, technology, engineering, and math themes. Each book contains a bookplate on the inside cover with an explanation of the STEM topic featured in the book and question prompts and book sharing tips for parents and caregivers to share with their reader to better understand STEM concepts.
Educators who used the STEM programming in their classrooms have said, “Our kids are better off because of the work that Raising A Reader does. We are trying to do a great deal with STEM in our county, and we have even built a makerspace at our county office of education.”
By introducing STEM concepts – science, technology, engineering and math – at this early stage in a child’s development we can positively influence their interest in fields not frequently pursued in their communities. We will also introduce families – parents, caregivers and even siblings, cousins and extended family – to the importance of sharing in their child’s learning through reading together.
Raising A Reader has reached more than 1.5 million children in 34 states. With your support, we can reach our goal of impacting twice as many children in all fifty states by 2020!
You truly are changing the lives of children and families we serve across the US.
Yours in book sharing,
The Raising A Reader Team
