Sponsor Education of 10 Poor Girls

Dear friends,

Thank you for supporting education of our children - girls in particular. Through this project, we are able to support education of 10 girls most of whom are going to appear for their STD X examinations this March.

We take this opportunity to present the case of a poor girl whose life saw a big change because of your generosity.

The situation

This case study is about Sw who has become one of the most affable children at Sphoorti while she was once in a deeply traumatic condition.

A harsh childhood filled with poverty and sickness can make any child give up on life and turn cynical.

Sw is such example of a child with hardships right in the beginning of life. Her story is of courage, determination and the will to do well in life.  She is an inspiration for privileged children who take a lot of things for granted in their lives.

Background of the child

Sw (15) spent most of her childhood in a poor family in Mumbai. Her father died of AIDS in 2012 and her mother is HIV + mother. Before Swarna came to Sphoorti, she was not able to speak the vernacular at all.

Sw is in STD X now and is doing well in her studies. 

The Change 

When Sw joined Sphoorti, she had a serious skin ailment on her scalp. After consulting a Dermatologist, her condition ameliorated. We had to tonsure her head and continue the treatment. She was also worried about the health of her mother knowing that a HIV + person has health issues all the time.

We took the help of staff members and a local counselor to deal with her stress, and behavior. After she joined school, she began to show interest in studies as well as arts and sports.

Swarna continues to study well in a local Junior College and wishes to complete BCom and MBA in future. One day, she wants to be successful and help children in need and distress.
