This microproject will drive cancer awareness through The Big Walk (Cancer No Be King) on World Cancer Day, mobilizing communities to fight stigma and promote early detection. It will fund free screenings for 1,000+ people, along with counselling and referrals on the spot. By uniting walkers and health services, it turns steps into hope, reducing late-stage cancer burdens through open conversations and timely checks.
This project will address the lack of early cancer checks, low awareness, and fear around the word "cancer" in many communities. Most people don't go for screening until it's too late, either because they don't know the signs or can't afford it. By combining a public walk with free screenings and counselling, the project creates a chance for people to get checked, ask questions, and take action early without the usual barriers.
This microproject will bring health workers, civil servants, security agencies, religious leaders, and communities together on World Cancer Day for a 70KM awareness walk, creating space for open talks about cancer. During the walk, mobile teams will provide over 1,000 free screenings, one-on-one counselling, and referrals-removing cost and access barriers and helping people take early steps for their health and understand what to do next.
This project "Sponsor 70KM Walk Against Cancer & Free Screenings" with the theme "The Big Walk (Cancer No Be King)'' supports early detection through 1,000+ screenings, reduces cancer stigma with awareness walks, survivor stories, counselling, and on-the-spot referrals. It helps communities discover government-funded care options many don't know about. These walking events may lower cancer risk by 11-16% and connect with UICC's United by Unique campaign for World Cancer Day (2025-2027).
