The 2012 - 1 year Skills Training for the 100 young women at the VTOC was completed with a Passing Out Ceremony held on 02 December 2012. All 100 girls compeleted their courses in various fields. There was excitement and tears as well as they collected their certificates and met with their family who came from all over Malaysia.
One of the most excited groups were the Penans (a group of indigenous young women from the Penan Tribe, who stepped out of their environment and decided to make a change for the future. Josephine was one of them. She pursued a course in Kindergarten Teachers Training and was one of the top scorers. She wants to do her Diploma in Early Childhood Education at Dika College. She has made up her mind to have her dream achieved. Her only hope is that finance will not put a stop to her pursuing her dreams. Josephine has found a job at a Kindergarten and plans to continue her Diploma part time.
To think that if this 1 year opportunity of doing a course with us was not offered to her, she would still be living with her community in Miri, Sarawak. There are many more Penans out there we would like to reach out to and this is just the beginning. Next year (2013) we have already received applications from other young women like Josephine.
We also want to make a difference in the lives of the young women who come from homes and shelters. We want to thank all those who have donated generously to be a part of this opportunity to provide skills training.
How could one help these young women? What do you think? Do you want to make a difference in changing lives?
