As another challenging year ends in the Peruvian Andes, we want to ensure this Christmas is filled with joy, not struggle, for the children of Oropeza. Picaflor House is dedicated to creating a safe, nurturing space for over 100 vulnerable children across our community center and mobile library programs. This festive season, our goal is simple: provide a nutritious holiday celebration, new books, and gifts to every child we support. Receive a Christmas E-card for every donation
Just outside the tourist hub of Cusco, the rural Andean communities of Oropeza and Kilarayan remain trapped in extreme poverty. The 100+ vulnerable children supported by Picaflor House in these areas live in precarious adobe homes, often lacking basic sanitation, running water, or heating, where chronic malnutrition is a constant threat to their development. For these specific families, the holiday season is not a time of celebration, but another period of acute hardship.
In the rural Andean communities of Oropeza and Kilarayan, near Cusco, extreme poverty is reality. The 100+ vulnerable children supported by Picaflor House face chronic malnutrition and live in precarious conditions without basic services. For their struggling families, the holidays are a hardship, not a celebration; they cannot afford a nutritious Christmas meal or educational books. These children face a Christmas defined by lack, missing essential nutrition and literacy resources.
While Picaflor House has driven tangible improvements in health and literacy since 2010, the long-term impact of this Christmas project extends into the children's mental well-being. For children living in extreme poverty, the holiday season often amplifies feelings of exclusion and anxiety.By creating positive memories and alleviating holiday-related stress, we are building emotional resilience and self-esteem.By gifting books, we are investing in long-term literacy skills for their future.
