The sewing team at the Diapalante Community Education Centre in Senegal have enjoyed spending the last few weeks learning to use the newly arrived overlocking sewing machines. We are delighted at the improvement in quality of the re-usable period pads created by these machines. At first, the threading of the machines, which use 4 bobbins at once, was rather a challenge, but after a little anxiety and a lot of laughter we have now mastered this task too!
In Kaolack, Senegal only 18% of the girls are confident of having the menstrual materials they need (Sayers 2022). With a re-usable period pack each girl can be confident she will always have the materials she needs to attend school during her period. The girls are very enthusiastic about the project and, thanks to your support, we look forward to providing many more re-usable period packs!
