Hi, my name is Sumaiya and I am 14. I live at Kranti NGO which helps daughters of sex workers to become agents of social change. I want your help because I just got admission to school in America to study one year. It is a special school for teens who are smart but are very behind in school. The school helps students to catch up three years in just one year. And I think I am smart but I have hard time in normal schools because children tease me and my mom. Will you help me catch up in school?
Before I came Kranti, I study many schools. I study 1 year Urdu, 2 years Telegu etc. When my mother bring me to Mumbai where she is sex worker, I study 1 year Marathi and 1 year Hindi. Then finally at Kranti I start study English. But all my life I am study in government schools. Sometimes I study in 3rd grade but next year I go back to 1st grade at new school. I am 14 so I should be 8th now but I don't even know many 5th maths. So I am very scared of normal school...but I really love learning.
I got admission to USA school with kids 12-18 with different level schooling. I will be comfortable because kids have different background and different problem like me. In Indian school people tease me and discriminate because my mother is doing sex work so it is hard to go school and focus and I am big studying with small kids. So I want to study one year in this special school where I learn 3 years of school and fix my math and English. Will you help me catch up in school??
I stay at Kranti NGO which empower girls from Mumbai's red-light areas to become agents of social change. We are 18 girls and we do many social change project in India and even in world. But many of us not having good education or school. Because our mother from different different place and we change school and language many time. If I want to lead social change I must have good education but India does not have program for helping kids who are behind. So one year in this school change my life.
