Mrs. Muzenda Helps Orphans with Gardens

Mrs. Muzenda is a seventy five year old lady. In a country like Zimbabwe, where life expectancy is 55 years for women according to the World Health Organization, Mrs. Muzenda is an old soul. Her husband died in 1999.  In the past several years, four of her six children have passed away, as well, leaving her with six orphans to raise.

While times have been very rough for Mrs. Muzenda, her determination and zeal to succeed in the garden project has pleasantly surprised many. She is the leader of a group of ten orphan guardians who are in the gardening project. Together, these women raise children who are related to them by blood, as well as those are not, but who still need to be loved and cared for.  Some of the children are babies and some are adolescents and the average number of children in a family is 6 children.  This is a huge burden for any family to carry!

Mrs. Muzenda says that her group of guardians have enjoyed a lot their first stage of the project which included receiving trainings and where they managed to get a lot of vegetables for the orphans for whom they care. She also says, “We have had a lot of vegetables since we started the garden project, and since then I haven't had head aches in finding relish (vegetables) for my grandchildren. Now we have prepared well for this upcoming stage and we are expecting a lot more than the past stage.  Thinking of the abundance of vegetables to come makes us so happy - it is good to see the children enjoying their relish and knowing it is healthy for them and will help them stay well.”

Friends, thanks for supporting orphans through the provision of seeds and trainings for their gardens!  With women like Mrs Muzenda involved, you can be assured that many children will be eating the veggies they need to stay healthy.  Any extras can be bartered for other food or can be sold.  Thank you!
