Hello SEDS Supporter!
Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS) has had a very busy spring and summer making the most of the student availability and ensuring active membership. SEDS has seen an explosion in outreach since successfully completing funding of the Business Development and Public Outreach micro-project and this update will share with you some the highlights.
In May, SEDS-USA was able to attend and exhibit at the Space Tech Expo and International Space Development Conferences which were previously (briefly) written about. Since my last writing, SEDS was invited to the Green2Gold Tech Mixer and the AIAA SPACE 2013 Conference to help spread our message and promote student involvement. These invitations were received by engaging the public and members of these organizations at the conferences and only could have been achieved by getting us out there – so thank you for your support which allowed us this opportunity!
Attending these events has allowed us to spread the message of SEDS and attract the interest of the California State Education system leading to a request to distribute SEDS materials to 30+ universities across the state. Further, discussions have allowed us to develop a plan to distribute SEDS materials across the whole US for increased K-12 and University expansion. While attending these events, SEDS also drew some media attention and conducted video interviews with qbits.com and space.com to be posted later this year. Ensuring organizational progress, SEDS has started working relationships with AIAA, International Space School Educational Trust, the California Space Enterprise Center, SpaceUnited, among many others! We will be inviting these groups and their members to our national conference, SpaceVision 2013, which continues to make head way - Speakers are announced and registration is open. The Student NewSpace Buisiness Plan Competition to be held at SpaceVision 2013 has also been announced and has more than quadrupled the prizes for this year's competition as result of these outreach efforts.
SEDS Earth continues to develop following the conversation starting at UKSEDS’ conference earlier this year. The International Board has been meeting on a quarterly basis and has been determining the priorities for us to help each other and interact on an international level. For starters, we have started to revamp the SEDS Earth website to help new countries start SEDS Charters – we have been contacted by students interested to start in Japan, Korea, Czech Republic, and Turkey to name just a few. Be sure to check the SEDS Earth website out over the coming few months as we update and develop it!
I hope you share our excitement for these business developments at SEDS – USA! We could not have done it without the generosity we received through GlobalGiving and the GiveForYouth platform and cannot thank you enough for investing in the future of SEDS and students everywhere. We have been working hard and have so much more to share; for a full stream of updates and to stay up to date, check us out on Facebook, Twitter, or at www.seds.org. If you have any questions or would like to engage SEDS, please feel free to contact us at info@seds.org.
From the current and future space passionate hearts of K-12 and university students everywhere, thank you for your support and helping us to create a better future!
