Locally based, trained Haitian volunteers will work with families in the area of the latest earthquake to test drinking water for contamination and provide materials for making the water safe to drink.
The most recent earthquake in the South of Haiti caused widespread damage to homes, businesses and critical infrastructure including water systems. Water sources are contaminated and the potential for the spread of water borne diseases including cholera are high. Many thousands of people are displaced from their homes and sanitation is poor. The risk of deadly diseases, especially in children is high.
Agua Pura has trained volunteers living in the area of the earthquake. While they also are affected by the earthquake they have essential skills to test drinking water for contamination and provide families with supplies to make their drinking water safe. Donations to this project will go to purchasing testing materials and water purification supplies such as chlorine tablets. Volunteer staff will train families in water purification techniques.
Agua Pura volunteers are already working to provide help to affected communities. As relief materials arrive from other organizations our volunteers will continue to work to work with families to provide clean, safe water and safeguard them from deadly water borne diseases.
