Reverse the Trend focuses on the intersectionality of climate change and nuclear weapons as interconnected threats to humanity and nature. Funding will help sponsor youth participation and events at the First Preparatory Committee for the Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) with our partner from the Marshallese Educational Initiative. We will also raise awareness about the humanitarian impact of nuclear weapons and the ban treaty.
There are more than 10,000 nuclear weapons on earth, all capable of causing catastrophic damage to human life and global destruction. The existence of these weapons is a threat to society, despite claims of stability resulting from mutually assured destruction (M.A.D.) This project pushes for a nuclear-free future through outreach and emphasis on youth voices at NPT PrepCom events, and will help raise awareness about the need to eliminate nuclear weapons.
Funding will support our efforts to ban nuclear weapons and produce a safer world. Your contributions will help RTT and MEI youth activists travel to Vienna for the NPT PrepCom, where they will convene two side events, including the Humanitarian Impact of Nuclear Weapons and Youth Empowerment through the Creative Arts. We will also discuss the urgency for disarmament and the need for states to support the nuclear ban treaty.
Funding will help provide a platform to underrepresented voices within nuclear policymaking and incentivize future action on nuclear weapons, especially among impacted communities and youth who bear the dual-burden of nuclear weapons and climate change. Our contributions will help advance nuclear justice by highlighting the voices of youth from both impacted communities and nuclear weapons states. Together, we will create change in the international arena by engaging directly with diplomats.
