This project will provide preschool and kindergarten children with Raising A Reader's financial literacy collection of books that introduce to key themes and serve as building blocks for creating positive financial behaviors in the future. In addition, the parent curriculum provides opportunities for the whole family to be involved as young children's behaviors and beliefs are greatly influenced by their parents and caregivers.
There are widespread levels of financial illiteracy among low-income and minority populations in the United States. Raising A Reader (RAR) provides families a strong support system, and educational programming with positive outcomes to meet the needs of some of the hardest to reach children and families. RAR with Financial Literacy aims to help children learn about the basics of money management to better prepare them for future financial success.
This project will ensure preschool and kindergarten children and their families participate in Raising A Reader's validated financial literacy program. Over the course of the program, children will be introduced to more than 100 books, including special financial literacy-themed books, as well as activities that parents and children can enjoy together to promote a healthy financial future.
The project will provide vital materials and support to vulnerable U.S. families. By improving the language and literacy skills of children at risk of educational failure and strengthening parent-child relationships and family educational involvement, this program will have a far-reaching impact on children and families.
