We can hardly believe that the first-ever summer session at the new Gekko educational centre in Athens is coming to a close. As we hold our final classes and prepare for the coming school year, we want to tell you how much your support has meant to our students.
This summer, we welcomed over 30 new participants to Gekko, meeting 90% of our desired capacity for the pilot period. Our newly registered students attended 6-week courses in Greek, STEM, Google-suite basics, and Web Design. We also hosted a series of four workshops focused on technical skills in the beauty industry and job readiness, including CV-building and interview preparation. These have been instrumental in helping us make connections within our new community and build momentum to operate at full capacity in the fall.
The most rewarding part of the summer has been watching participants transform from uncertain visitors into Gekko students, confident and at home in the space. Your donation to ‘School supplies for summer program students’ allowed us to welcome each new student with the tools and materials they needed to begin their learning journey at Gekko. More than just materials, student kits have been a signal to our participants that they belong here.
When asked to share the best part of the workshops, one student simply said, ‘Everything.’ Thanks to your support, Gekko has become a safe, welcoming, and supportive space where displaced young people can imagine futures where everything is possible.
