This project will provide quality early learning activities for 5 children aged 2 to 5 years from low-income backgrounds. We will select children who are not currently enrolled in any early learning, nursery, or school program. If this fundraising campaign does not succeed, the children will stay home until the next academic year. Their caregivers can't spend much time with them during the day. They are not communicating enough with others and are having too much screen time.
Children of low-income families in urban communities in Cameroon face a double burden: 1. Their parents can't afford paid learning until they start public primary school, so they start already behind 2. The streets are not safe. Unlike previous generations of Cameroonians or those currently in rural areas, they can't roam around and learn from other children playing. They are in the house. They have a TV or a phone and a busy caregiver. Children-oriented programs are played for hours.
The problem is so bad that about half of the children who first start at "Nyssa Early Learning" have early symptoms of learning disabilities: they are significantly behind on basic communication and problem-solving benchmarks. They can't feed themselves, talk, or move as much as other children their age. Nyssa creates individualized progress plans, gives them the attention they need, and in most cases those symptoms go away after a few months.
Your donation can sponsor early education, special education, and/or therapy for a child like Mike. Mike (not a real name) is 12 and has dyslexia and dyscalculia. He struggled academically and felt isolated in school because he could barely do math or read. After participating in Nyssa's individual and group therapy sessions 5 days a week, he overcame these difficulties. Mike's test scores increased by 70% within three months.

Start a FundraiserEvery microproject is intended to use the donations it receives in accordance with its stated description; however, it is important to provide project leaders with the flexibility to maximize the potential benefit from the donations they receive. This means that your donation may be used as a part of the main project that supports this microproject, specifically Nyssa Early Learning and Special Education. In this event, the project leader is required to post an update to the microproject detailing the results and reasons behind this change.
