Hurricane Ida caused widespread destruction along the U.S. Gulf Coast when it came ashore as one of the most powerful storms to ever hit the country. Your donation to this project will support DAUSA's disaster relief efforts to bring heavy equipment like our rescue boat, backhoe, and chainsaws, along with several Disaster Aid Response Teams (DARTs) to South East Louisiana for clearing and restoring safety.
On the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, Lousiana experienced one of the strongest storms to hit that state in more than a century. Over 1 million residents are without power, there is widespread flooding, and hospitals in the region are already overwhelmed due to the recent COVID surge. With wind gusts up to 172 mph, Ida has left a trail of debris with ripped-off roofs, downed power lines, and crumbling homes and businesses.
Donations to this project will fund the deployment of three Louisiana Disaster Relief Trailers, one from Houston and a fifth from New Braunsfel, Texas, to South East Louisiana. DAUSA will also be able to send our rescue boat, backhoe, a trained chainsaw team, and several Disaster Aid Response Team (DART) members to assist affected families in need. We are coordinating efforts with the local emergency Command Centers and working in tandem with the local Rotary District Governor.
The deployment of an equipped Relief Trailer allows the Disaster Aid Response Team to quickly assess the needs of the people suffering from the effects of a disaster to minimize human suffering, potential financial impacts, and loss of life. Relief Trailers, along with the supplies and volunteers it brings to disaster locations, encourages a partnership with other emergency response volunteers who are able to effectively work with local emergency responders.
