Your money to support computers for Afghan girls has directly impacted hundreds of girls in our computer centers in Afghanistan. These girls now have the ability to learn to use computers, practice typing and navigating on the computer and most importantly, learn how their knowledge of computers can provide them with valuable skills as they move on in their education or the workforce.
Shogofa is a student in the 10th grade at one of our large urban schools in Mazar-i-Sharif. She is excited to be part of the computer class. “I came here to learn computers so I can teach others. What I am really expecting from myself is being able to become a source of knowledge for other girls around me and my brothers and sisters in my family. I came to this course to improve my knowledge and it’s a great chance for me and other girls who wouldn’t be able to go to the outside computer centers. This course is free which helps to make it affordable for Afghan families. It is like a bright window for us.”
Spotlight on New Center
A major girls school for 5,000 now has a new computer center. Our project management and construction team built out the center and sourced computers over the summer in time for 120 girls to begin computer studies in the fall. An exam will be held this month testing their knowledge of Microsoft Office suite. Upon successful completion of the computer class, a certification is awarded to the girls. This document can prove helpful in seeking employment.
Internet Modifications
Sahar is working with the Ministry of Education and the principals to provide higher speed internet services for the computer course.
