By Ya Sae-War | HUG Licensed Counselor
(From our Thai Counselor)
We started to provide free counseling both offline and online to our clients many of which are now ofline because of COVID-19. Our clients are coming through different channels such as words of mouth, partner organizations (government and NGOS), and Thailand Internet Crimes Against Children (TICAC).
For the last two months, HUG’s counselor provided 62 counseling sessions. We found that victims of online exploitation keep increasing and they are seeking more mental health support during the spread of COVID-19. The HUG Project could fulfill the needs of victims since we offer free counseling to our clients.
HUG is still in the beginning phases of extending our work into the online world. We have found some challenges with the online sessions which could interfere during online sessions. However, this is the beginning of the counseling sessions and we are able to see a therapeutic relationship develop between our counselor and the clients; they started to open up and share their struggles with us without feeling fear of being judged. On our journey of providing this service, we hope that this is an opportunity to continue support our clients to be more aware of themselves, able to process deeply into the root of their problem(s), and work on the core of the issue.
