The new school year for NFTE DC Region is progressing smoothly. We were thrilled with the donations we received towards classroom supplies and our entrepreneurial programs, and hope to leverage the Give For Youth platform further in the future. The donations we received helped us provide opportunities to teach students skills that help capture their creative energy, and give them a chance to succeed in the modern economy. They also helped provide the seed capital prize money for the winners of the DC Regional Business Plan Competition. In addition to the prize money won during the Regional Competition, our winners, Dagim G. and Ajani Y., both advanced to New York to participate in the National Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge (NYEC).
Ajani’s business, CrossRoads Empowerment Services, aims to provide one-on-one counseling services for students who have been victimized by bullying and other social pressures. Dagim is the Founder of The Audible, a sports blog which offers peer reviewed articles on a variety of sports teams and topics. Dagim advanced to the finals of both the E*TRADE Elevator Pitch Challenge and the NYEC, earning a further $7,500 in total prizes for his accomplishments. His success, combined with the students learning NFTE’s curriculum in 56 classrooms across the DC Metro Area, point to a strong start to the new school year. On behalf of our almost 1,200 new students, our teachers and staff, we thank for donating to NFTE through the Give For Youth platform.
