Fortified porridge has been distributed in our Mayezane and Mahwanke sites. This was in response to the biting famine which has affected the Matabeleland, Masvingo and Midlands provinces. On average, the selected orphan families have been having one meal per day, a situation that has seen school authorities complain that the children are not concentrating during classes while some have collapsed in assemble lines.
The community and traditional leaders said that this kind of help has in reality prevented imminent deaths which were about to occur in the areas and they are immensely grateful for the trucks that arrive with 50lb bags of porridge to deliver relief to countless orphaned families per village. The headmaster of one of the schools in the site said this kind of intervention will see an improvement in school attendance and performance by the benefiting children.
We are so grateful to each of you who have given selflessly to give life and hope to children who were going to bed hungry, whose eyes were starting to glass over and whose bellies were never full. Thank you for not only helping the children, but also the widown and elderly guardians who take care of them. Thank you for caring for children like Chizani. Because of you, she will return to school as soon as her energy picks back up. What a GREAT way for her to start the New Year.
May 2014 treat be amazing to each of you.
