Since 2011, teens at the Boys and Girls Club of Carbondale, IL have made friends across the globe at Kambi Primary School in rural Kenya, communicating by trading letters, photos and videos. Even though the school has no electricity and few books, Kambi students are hard working and motivated to learn. When they graduate 8th grade, most have no chance at education because the only schools available are expensive boarding schools. We want to help our Kenyan pen pals go to high school!
When studenst at Kambi Promary School graduate 8th grade, most have no chance at further education because the only schools available are expensive boarding schools. Since 2011, teens at the Boys & Girls Club of Carbondale have made friends across the globe at Kambi Primary School in rural Kenya, communicating by trading letters, photos and videos and now we want to raise money to help our friends go to high school.
The project will give the brightest and most hardworking 13- to 14-year-old students at these rural Kenyan schools a chance at education beyond 8th grade that they otherwise would never have. Our project will help provide scholarships for the highest performing 8th grade students at Kambi Primary School and three other schools in rural Kenya. We will donate our money through the established not-for-profit group Teach My Kenyan Children, for which we have helped raise hundreds of dollars sin
The average cost to send one child to secondary school for one year is $600. It is our goal to pay for at least two students to attend secondary school next year.
